case study: campbell distillers performance appraisal training

Groupe Pernod Ricard is one of the world's three leading players in the production and distribution of spirits and wine. The UK businesses of Pernod Ricard: Campbell Distillers, Caxton Wines, PR Brands UK and World Brands Duty Free, embarked on a vision and values project in June 1999, with the aim of driving the business forward, and creating greater unity combined with a positive culture.

As part of this project, Campbell Distillers recognised the need to put in place a new performance appraisal system that integrated the new vision and values. They invited Training Focus to develop and deliver an appropriate programme to support the launch of the new appraisal system to 50 directors, senior and middle managers. This launch incorporated specific training on how to use the appraisal documentation and prepare for appraisals, and was based on a case study developed during the training needs analysis.

The success of this initial launch and training, plus the positive feedback received by managers who had implemented the new system, led Campbell Distillers to make a decision to roll out the training to more junior managers within the organisation. The appraisal documentation and training were further tailored for this second round of training, since these managers were to appraise more junior members of staff. Training Focus successfully delivered this training in January 2001.
